Planning a film opening

 

The movie Jinxed shows a teenage girl whose entire family is cursed by bad luck that follows them through generation, but they have gotten so used to the bad luck it is now apart of their life and how they live.

 I really like the opening of the film because it establishes that the main character is a put together person show by the way she dresses, and the way she sees the good side of her curse of bad luck. Additionally, I enjoy how their is some much chaos that goes on in the opening to illustrate how bad their bad luck is. this is shown by fires, burnt breakfast, and exploding the house, all just in the opening. 

This picture shows the main character talking to her grandfather that also lives with the curses, and has decided to live in a bubble for his own safety.

I want to use some of their choreographed bad luck scenes, such as the main character tripping, and I want to establish that the bad luck in my film opening is also based of a curse, of a picking a penny out of a wishing well. Lastly, Similar to this film opening I want to establish the bad luck through both dialogue and mise en scene.

Not So Lucky

Ext: The Walk (a plaza) in front of the Starbucks coffee shop

Int: A bright day showing the modern looking coffee shop with a big window and door in shot

In front of the Starbuck

Enters Claire Jones running up to the door in grey sweat pants, a red hoodie, with a messy bun in her hair. She enters the Starbuck to them immediately run back out with a wallet in hand digging for coins.

Claire:

(Mumbles to herself)  Not enough money

She start looking around scanning her environment, in front of her she sees a long sidewalk leading to other stores until her eyes land on a wishing fountain. She stares at it debating whether she should go up to it or not. She decides to and fast walks up to the fountain sits down on the edge and hesitantly pulls a penny on the tails side out of the fountain. She clenches the coin determined to get her coffee, and runs out of frame with the unlucky penny.

JUMPCUT

Claire puts all her money including the coin on the counter 

Claire:

Can I have a Venti Mocha Frappuccino please

The Barista goes to make her drink and gives it to her. Claire checks the drink to realize the drink is wrong.

Claire:

Ah, I'm sorry this is wrong

Claire looks at her watch as she shows the Barista the wrong order and realized she is going to be late for her class.

Claire: 

Never mind( Claire anxiously smiles) , I'm gonna be late to my class, I got to go.

Claire runs out of the coffee shop, and trips a little on the way to her car in the parking lot.
